about us
Piccadilly Records was born in 1978, was taken over by the present management in 1990 and moved up the road to our current location in Manchester's record shopping Mecca, the Northern Quarter in 1997 - take a look!
We pride ourselves on our friendly, helpful service and our across-the-board range of music.
Please note that THIS WEBSITE IS NOT A STOCKLIST! As we are a real shop and not a computer-controlled warehouse, seeing a record listed here does NOT guarantee that we have it in stock.
We do try to keep the website as up-to-date as possible though, and once a limited item is no longer available we will remove it from sale.
As many of our records need to be ordered from overseas or from small distributors and labels, we recommend that you allow us 5 working days to order out of stock items for you.

this week's thoughts...
Hello,
It's Mercury Prize time again (live on TV on Tuesday night), with Burial the bookie's favourite, and Adele, Estelle, Neon Neon, Rachel Unthank & The Winterset, The Last Shadow Puppets, British Sea Power, Elbow, Laura Marling, Portico Quartet, Radiohead and Alison Krauss and Robert Plant also on the list. Laura Marling would be my bet!
It's all change at Piccadilly Records HQ, with both Danny 'Longlegs' Webb and Neil 'Not So Long Legs' Scott waving goodbye to us.
Dan's been with us for a few years now, moving his encyclopedic musical knowledge from the counter to buying dance music for the shop / website, always digging deep to find those off the beaten track releases. We wish him well down in Sussex.
Neil wasn't here so long, but we'll miss him just as much. He's leaving to do a bit of tiling and to be a professional DJ, so we say good luck to him on both fronts.
If you fancy going out, put these on your list:
Autumn Defense / Plush (Tues 9th Sept, Night & Day,reduced entry tickets available for £5 by e-mailing richard@nightnday.org)
Northern Comfort (Sat 13th Sept, The Salutation, 8pm - 1am, free) have a Fat City knees up with Darren Laws and Martin Brew guesting along with residents Rob D, Catcalledmorris and Sad Eagle. Funk, soul, reggae, Latin and jazz will be spun on the night.
After getting a bit over excited about Stingers opening game of the new season in last week's intro, it was of course cancelled by the rain (waterlogged pitch). In the meantime the Premier League decided to fill in on the excitement front with Manchester City suddenly becoming one of the richest clubs in the world, in a crazy upside down 24 hours.
Right, I better stop waffling and do some work!
See you next week,
Philippa
